Have You Met: David Walcher

David Walcher – Undersheriff, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office; Board Member, AllHealth Network

As a lifelong Coloradan and a dedicated public servant, Dave Walcher has spent decades shaping safer communities across the state. Currently the Undersheriff for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Dave began his career at just 21 with the FBI and has since held key leadership roles in law enforcement. He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s in criminal justice and has completed leadership programs at Northwestern University, the FBI, and the University of Denver.

Beyond the badge, he’s a passionate advocate for behavioral health, having served on three mental health boards, including AllHealth Network. “If we can help someone be more successful when they leave jail, then we should do it,” Dave says. With a 1970 Dodge Charger R/T in the garage and a dream of going off the grid in South America, Dave brings a grounded, generous spirit to everything he does. His commitment to making a difference is as strong on the job as it is in his personal life.

Why is mental health and this work important to you?

I have always believed that a Sheriff’s Office should do everything possible to help individuals succeed once released from jail. For example, I co-chaired the state’s Correctional Treatment Board, which helped launch Jail-Based Behavioral Services (JBBS) across Colorado.

How has this work impacted your life? What is one positive thing you see happening in mental health?

I’ve spent my adult life in law enforcement, and it’s been impactful to see people—in both mental health and law enforcement—working hard to do the right thing for the safety and well-being of our communities.

We are grateful for your support of the AllHealth Foundation. What inspires your generosity? Why are you philanthropic?

I’m inspired by individuals who try to make a positive difference.
